More info on the town of Andria
Castel del Monte, Andria (BT), Puglia, Italy
This octagonal fortress rises on one of the highest hills in Western Murgia, south of Andria.
The castle is mentioned in a letter of Emperor Frederick II in 1240, so it existed already at that time. Originally designed as a mansion, since there are no defense structures as a bridge, a ditch or underground rooms, the castle, almost in ruins, was purchased by the Italian State in 1876 and underwent a number of restorations that brought it back to its original beauty.
