Images from Assisi, Umbria
Assisi is a small town in the heart of Italy, renowned all over the world for being the birthplace of St. Francis and St. Clare. In the year 2000 Assisi was included among the World Heritage Sites of the UNESCO.
The sights are mainly connected to the religious history of the area, and include the lower and upper Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi, the Basilica of Santa Chiara, the Cathedral of San Rufino, the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, then at the foot of the crest where the medieval town rose is the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli with the Porziuncola, the original small chapel connected to episodes of the life of St. Francis.
