The castle has a peculiar eagle-shaped form, with massive bastions and walls, and inside a number of beautiful frescoed chambers.
The castle was built in the 10th century by Sinibaldo lord of the Sabina countdom, then restored in the 16th century by Giangiorgio Cesarini on a project of architect Peruzzi. It was a possession of a number of different lords, such as the Mattei in the 17th century, followed by the Lante della Rovere and in 1739 by the Muti family.
